Dog lovers: My son has a dog that barks a lot.?
He has tried professional training, to no avail. My son just purchased a "Pet Safe Bark Control" system to use on his dog. However, as we also have a dog and cats, too, my husband is adamant against this, saying it will affect our pets and it's not humane. It works by sending an ultrasonic sound every time his dog barks. We haven't opened the box yet ---- would love some opinions/thoughts. Son says the dog is extremely resistant to training.
Get a shock collar. It gives them a little zap every time they bark. You can adjust the voltage so that it doesn't hurt, but still give them a little shock so that they associate barking with an unpleasant feeling. Personally I am against teaching a dog to not bark at all, which is what the shock collar will do, but if it's what you must do, then so be it. It's better to get your dog to bark, then say "quiet!" or "hush!" and give them a treat at the same time, and keep giving them treat after treat while saying the keyword, as long as they do not bark, They'll soon get the message that if they keep quiet when you say "hush", good things will happen.
